Bangladesh’s Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has described the United States as a long-standing and trusted friend of Bangladesh, expressing confidence that bilateral relations between the two countries will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
Speaking as a special guest at the celebration marking the 250th Independence Day of the United States, organized by the U.S. Embassy at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on Saturday, Dr. Rahman emphasized the importance of cooperation based on mutual interests, shared values, and common objectives.
He highlighted the United States’ consistent humanitarian support for the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees sheltered in Bangladesh, describing it as a significant example of the strong partnership between the two nations. According to him, this continued assistance has reinforced mutual trust and demonstrated the depth of bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Rahman noted that Bangladesh and the United States have steadily expanded collaboration across a wide range of sectors, including development, trade, humanitarian assistance, and regional cooperation. He expressed optimism that the relationship would continue to grow through constructive engagement and shared commitments.
He also stressed the importance of continued cooperation in promoting sustainable development, regional stability, democracy, and human rights. He said that the joint efforts of both countries could make meaningful contributions to peace, security, and prosperity at both the regional and global levels.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Rahman expressed hope that the enduring partnership between Bangladesh and the United States would become even stronger in the future, benefiting both nations while contributing positively to international peace and stability.
