Chechen fighters, widely regarded as one of the world’s most formidable guerrilla forces, have described the potential aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran as a “religious war” or crusade, while also pledging to fight alongside Iran in the ongoing conflict—framing their involvement as a form of “jihad.” This force, primarily known as a paramilitary unit from Russia’s autonomous Chechnya region, operates under the leadership of Ramzan Kadyrov, a close ally of Vladimir Putin.
The fighters, commonly referred to as the “Kadyrovtsy,” have taken part in numerous international conflicts on behalf of Russia. They are particularly skilled in drone operations, sniper tactics, and urban warfare, and have been providing significant military support to Russia in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Reports indicate that these Chechen forces are ready to deploy to Iran immediately if Moscow grants approval. In a video statement, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, commander of the Chechen special forces “Akhmat,” labeled US President Donald Trump as “Dajjal” and pledged full support for Iran, including the use of advanced weaponry.
Beyond military backing, Ramzan Kadyrov has also called for unity across the Muslim world in response to the conflict. Analysts suggest that although Russia may avoid direct involvement, it could strategically support Iran by deploying these highly trained and battle-hardened fighters, potentially playing a crucial role in preventing Iran from facing collapse under external pressure.
